Dying of a Nation

Being a kindergarten kid, I wanted to be a President. My uncles and aunties, being amused by my wild dream, told me then that there was no President in Malaysia.

My dream shattered.

Being a primary school kid, my dream was getting more factual based. I wanted to be a Minister. One of my uncles then asked me what did a Minister do. I didn't know.

My dream shattered again.

Being a secondary school youth, when I didn't want to be someone else but myself, I just hoped that I could contribute towards building a better nation, a better world and a better tomorrow. Then I knew that it was not easy to be achieved here.

My dream shattered again.

And now here am I. A Man of 20. I realize that the nearer I'm getting towards the dream, the farther it is away from me in reality. The deeper I dive in, the more ugliness that I see.

This country has too many ills. It corrupts everywhere. From up to down, from left to right.

Institutions are unworthy of our faith in them without an independent judiciary at helm. Judiciary has no necessary canon on her side to fight off destructive force. Annoying third-world view is deeply rooted in self-deceiving government. A country with a whopping oil wealth squanders it as if it is not going to finish. Political bureaucracy has been entangled confusingly with social economic interest most of the time. Conflicts of interest arise everywhere as if there is no big deal at all.

Politically, there is a struggling old man with his surname as Rule of Law and name as Statemanship, barely breathing in the fresh air of freedom.

Economically, there is a problematic capitalist system which illustrates how can an economy maximize the destructive nature of capitalism upon the Nature plus the Poor and minimize the socio-economic benefit of majority in a country.

There are some loosing nuts within somewhere in the education system as well which deter the supposedly unlimited potential of many young souls. When the GDP drops sharply due to the depletion of our sovereign oil wealth, an inevitable crisis would most probably descend upon our land. In short term, there would be no more instant wealth; in long run, there is no sufficiently large and diverse talent pool which can provide for the revival of a nation.

There seems to be an unbearable scene of chaos. But I always believe in the Theory of Chaos.

There is always an order within the chaos. And someone is needed to create it.

My brief annual movie review

3 movies will be born in mind in coming years unless I suffer amnesia (touchwood though): the 'Overheard' in mid year which highlights inherent greed in human beings; the 'Avatar' in year end that brilliantly delivers a strong message about the fragility of Mother Earth in the hands of the plundering Capitalism; and last but not least, the 'Sherlock Holmes' in year end too that shows how beautifully can an extraordinary brain be operated beyond our imagination. One word to sum them up- unforgettable.

满足,满足,满足!! 好戏的确是人生的养份。
